Carouge: Our good addresses to take advantage of the clearance sale

The big clearance sale

The weekend of La grande braderie de Carouge (GE) takes place in two stages. Saturday October 12, 2024 is dedicated to a market in which around forty Carouge brands are participating this year. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., they cover the walls to display their treasures outside (the location map is available online). On Sunday, October 13, it’s the turn of the garage sale to invade the streets of the city, from rue Saint-Joseph to boulevard des Promenades. The Carougeoises and Carougeois do not lack inventiveness and good humor to give their objects a second life. Special mention to the corner dedicated to children, on the Place de la Sardaigne: atmosphere and gems guaranteed.

The Carouge Museum

The Carouge Museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary. No party without candles, and this is also the theme that was chosen for the 2024 edition of the International Ceramic Competition of the City of Carouge. Around fifty works by the winners are on display to bring a festive spirit to the museum until December 1st. Saturday October 12, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., a conference will be given by the artist Le Gentil Garçon around confetti! The museum is also open on Sundays, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Market Square

At morning coffee or aperitif time, the terraces flourish all around the Market Square, under the surveillance of the bell tower of the Sainte- church. The fruit and vegetable market is held there on Saturday mornings. An essential meeting point for Carougeois, this is also where the curious will be able to find the garage sale stands on Sunday October 13, 2024. We sit at the Café du Marché, at the Café du cinéma Bio or even Al Mercato, and we let ourselves live to the rhythm of Carouge.

Three gourmet addresses

For honey lovers, the area is full of good addresses. There is the unmissable Martel, on Rue du Marché, and its chestnut cream mille-feuille is in season. For those with a sweet tooth, a visit to Mr & Mrs Renou is a must for its - whipped hazelnut praline heart. More classic, the Pavés de Genève (or the chocolate cake to heat at home!) from Philippe Pascoët.

The map of Carouge

Not a fan of shopping, even second hand? The artistic walk option is an alternative. Although Sunday October 13, 2024 is not necessarily the ideal day, given the crowds that the garage sale brings. You can nevertheless make some nice discoveries by following the map provided by the City of Carouge and learn more about local art through around sixty sculptures, fountains or paintings.
