This Tuesday, October 8, the administrative court rendered part of its decision. The Réunion Region and the Vinci-Bouygues group disagree on the question of additional costs and unpaid amounts for the work on the already built part of the New Coastal Road.

For the moment, the body agrees with the local community by rejecting part of the builders’ claims for compensation. In total, the Vinci-Bouygues group is claiming 971 million euros.

Experts and lawyers exchanged their arguments, supported by figures, during the hearing on September 17. This Tuesday morning, the administrative court rejected 5 requests. Other files, such as the 242 million euros for the construction of the dikes, however, remain under study. The final decision is expected on October 22.

On this subject, the public rapporteur considered that it was not up to the Region to pay for failures in the extraction of massive rocks in particular.

Two amicable procedures had previously failed. The companies, which built the viaduct from Saint-Denis to Grande-Chaloupe, are claiming an additional 971 million euros for unpaid debts and additional costs.

The New Coastal Road has already cost the Region and the State 2.5 billion euros. It remains to build the second viaduct between Grande-Chaloupe and to complete the road axis, for an estimated amount of 820 million euros.
