Tired but happy. On Saturday, competitors and organizers of the final of the CWSA wakesurf world championships had smiles on their faces. Geneva hosted this event for the first time. “The members of the world federation told us that we had set the bar very high,” commented Joan Rouiller, president of the Geneva association. A compliment all the more appreciated as the weather conditions have not always been ideal. No event could take place on Thursday due to the weather. Because, unlike other board sports, wakesurfing is practiced on the waves created by the boat. The wind is therefore not an ally.
The competition was still able to take place. And the Swiss were not unworthy. Among the juniors, the Valaisans Mathieu Perren and his sister Aby Perren respectively made 1is et 3e in their category. Matia Erba, from Ticino arrived 3e in amateur man surfing. The Vaudois Jeff Degiacomi (1is) and Jonathan Quadri (3e) were a hit among the amateur skim men.
Among the pros, the Russians and the Japanese shone. Among the women, Canadian Bailey Rush won the title in skim and surf. The Belgian, who lives in Zurich, Olivier Scokaert won 1re place among the men in skim.
