Simon Brandt makes his return to the political arena

In Geneva, the former PLR deputy on the Geneva Grand Council and municipal councilor of the City of Geneva Simon Brandt announced his return to politics in an interview he gave to Blick on Monday. He will run in the municipal elections next spring under the colors of Libertés et Justice sociale (LJS), the party of State Councilor Pierre Maudet.

Simon Brandt put his political career on hold in 2020, after being the subject of an investigation by the Geneva courts which suspected him of violations of official secrecy committed within the framework of his mandate as municipal councilor and his work. in the police strategic analysis department.

Simon Brandt has since been cleared. The former member of the PLR had been traumatized by his arrest and his interrogation at the police station. He considered himself to have been treated like a criminal. He had been handcuffed, stripped and strip-searched. Following this mishap, he disappeared from the political scene.

Approached by several parties

In the columns of Blick, Simon Brandt explains his return to business. “I took the time to rebuild myself, after the ordeals I went through over the last five years,” he notes. “I was approached by several parties, but my attachment to the defense of freedoms and a sense of justice could only bring me to LJS.”

Simon Brandt therefore joined the party founded by Pierre Maudet, a person to whom he was very close and who was struggling, at the time, with legal troubles caused by a trip to Abu Dhabi in 2015. The former advisor municipal considers itself, even today, a “collateral victim” of this affair which caused a lot of noise.

Simon Brandt admits having had to, before joining LJS, “settle certain personal points” with Pierre Maudet. Today, the page has been turned and he believes that the new political formation founded by his former mentor is “the new radical party”, the social and popular wing “which is no longer represented at all by the current PLR”.
