Don’t panic if you see smoke coming out of the sewers from the October 7, 2024. Agglomération will carry out smoke tests to check the state of the sanitation network Queven (Morbihan), Ploemeur and Riantec.

For six weeks

“If you see smoke coming out of the sewers, it is Lorient Agglomération which wishes to improve knowledge of the operation of the wastewater network of Quéven, Ploemeur and Riantec,” reassures Lorient Agglomération.

How does this happen? “To do this, the RPQeau company will carry out smoke tests and diagnosis on the public sanitation network”, indicates Lorient Agglomération.

The tests consist of blowing smoke into the wastewater network in order to detect possible anomalies and non-compliant connections, the main causes of the introduction of parasitic water. The reduction of these so-called “parasitic” waters contributes to improving the operation of the network, treatment and purification systems, with economic concerns on the one hand, but also and above all to meet ecological and health requirements.

What risks?

Lorient Agglomération warns that smoke “can emerge outside or inside homes in the event of poor connection. »

There is no health risk:

The smoke used is composed of paraffin oil. It is odorless, harmless to humans and animals, does not stain and dissipates in a short time.

Be careful, smoke can trigger certain fire alarms. You will then need to ventilate your home to dissipate the smoke. The Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) is informed of this intervention.
