Electronic music lovers soon to be satisfied. Next October 31Essaim, a new club, will open its doors in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Programming will be managed by Brice Coudertwho was at the helm of the Concrete evenings, on a barge that has become a stronghold of the electro, house and techno scene. The adventure ended in 2019 after economic disagreements with the company that owns the boat, despite the mobilization of its followers and political figures like Anne Hidalgo or Jack Lang. Farewells celebrated in music with a festive 50-hour marathon.
500m2 to dance and have fun
“Having a place open every weekend is the only way to be able to tell a story and develop an audience,” Brice Coudert told AFP. Installed in the basement of a former fire stationEssaim – in reference to that of bees – is spread over 500m2, a space “on a human scale”, he says. The place previously housed two other nightclubs, Club Carbone and Bisou Club.
The club also features Concrete’s former technical and production director, as well as two other music industry professionals. The programming will be signed Brice Coudert, but also Antoine Hernandeza fine connoisseur of electronic music, who officiates at the Positive Education festival in Saint-Etienne.
The ground level DJ booth
Far from classic dancefloors, the place will surprise with its concrete surfaces and its small white tiles, giving it at first glance the air of an “abandoned kitchen”, compares the artistic director.
Essaim intends to play on this discrepancy to create a “futuristic, mystical and intimate” atmospherewith LED screen walls and lighting effects, indicates the club in a press release.
As with Concrete, the DJ booth will be at ground level. “It may seem trivial, but it changes the psychology of the audience and the DJ who finds himself less on a pedestal and is an integral part of the party,” underlines Brice Coudert.
