Medical tourism: with its experience, Morocco targets the African market

During a forum which brought together diplomats, experts and academics on October 4 in Rabat, Morocco presented its vision of medical tourism, which it resolutely intends to direct towards the African continent.

During this meeting initiated by the Mohammed V University of Rabat, in partnership with the Trophée de l’africanité Foundation, which focused on the theme “Morocco, a flagship destination for medical tourism in Africa”, the speakers highlighted the positioning of the Morocco “carried by the vision of the King, as a leader in medical tourism through reforms to improve its health system and tourism infrastructure».

The debates focused on Morocco’s experience as “medical destination of choice» and on the future prospects of the medical sector in the country. The forum ended with the signing of an agreement for the organization of a medical caravan in Mali.

The signatories placed emphasis on strengthening South-South cooperation through strengthening exchanges between African countries to improve care and access to medical services.

A Liberian diplomat, Emmanuel Sayel Larmeh, said in a statement for Le360 that his countryencourages medical tourism to Morocco» indicating that it is necessary to “increase communication campaigns» aimed at African populations in this sense.
