She’s a star on social media. Like its big Norman sister in Étretat, the Port-Blanc arch in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon (Morbihan) is threatened by erosion. The public authorities invite people not to approach it. At the risk of taking a stone to the head.
An arch has already collapsed
The mayor of the town, Stéphanie Doyen, does not beat around the bush:
The Port-Blanc arch is threatened. At the beginning of the century there were two arches. The last one standing may collapse.
According to the city councilor, a double phenomenon threatens the place:
More and stronger storms. At the same time, runoff phenomena weaken the structure from above. The two combined, it’s pretty devastating.
The community is asking people not to “go under the arch” for safety reasons. The ark is monitored regularly.
