CJEU: The Netherlands supports the EU-Morocco partnership | APAnews

Despite this decision, the EU, as well as several of its member states, including Belgium, and Spain, have reiterated their commitment to strengthening their ties with Morocco.

The Netherlands supports the joint declaration regarding the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union. “We reaffirm our firm commitment to the EU-Morocco strategic partnership,” declared the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands this Saturday on its X account.

The European Union has expressed its strong attachment to the strategic partnership established with Morocco, following the judgment rendered Friday by the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning the fishing and agricultural agreements concluded between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European bloc.

“The EU reiterates the great importance it attaches to its strategic partnership with Morocco, which is long, broad and deep,” declared in a joint statement the President of the European Commission, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, and the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

“Over the years, we have developed a strong friendship and multifaceted cooperation, which we intend to further strengthen in the weeks and months to come,” added the senior European officials.

In close collaboration with Morocco, “the EU firmly intends to preserve and continue to strengthen its close relations with Morocco in all areas of their partnership, in accordance with the principle pacta sunt servanda,” specifies the joint press release.

The EU notes that the Court of Justice of the European Union maintains the validity of the agreement on agricultural products for a further 12 months.

For its part, Morocco claims not to be concerned by the CJEU’s decision, stressing that the case pits the EU against the “Polisario”. However, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared in a press release that “the Court’s decision contains obvious legal errors and suspicious factual errors”, adding that it reflects “total ignorance of the realities of the case” and that she is “politically biased”.
