FACT OF THE DAY Samuel Roux, the lumberjack who became a priest

On September 22, Samuel Roux was ordained priest in the Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Castor cathedral in Nîmes. This young Gardois who loves fishing, hunting and rugby was a lumberjack before having a revelation. In love with his territory, the new priest has had an atypical journey in which nature is never very far away.

“During a mass in the church of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, I recognized Jesus present on the altar and there it began to turn my life upside down. A true moment of grace, a true spiritual encounter. It was an authentic revelation, I discovered that the good Lord was there. I got on my knees, then felt filled with an infinite love that surpasses human love. It shook me, turned me upside down. It’s like a moment I’ve been waiting for without even knowing it.”. A man’s destiny sometimes changes at a precise moment, without him expecting it. That of Samuel Roux experienced a decisive turning point at the age of 21. The key moment in his life led to him being ordained a priest on September 22 by Monseigneur Nicolas Brouwet, the bishop of Nîmes. This hadn’t happened in the Antonin city for nine years.
