Toyota Canada, a long-time partner of the StopGap Foundation, has renewed its national support of this organization with a donation of $100,000. This donation will strengthen StopGap’s awareness and education programs and ramp construction aimed at removing barriers to physical accessibility in Canadian communities.

Since 2019, the partnership between Toyota Canada and StopGap has been anchored in a shared value of inclusion through physical accessibility, embodied in Toyota’s vision of “mobility for all”.

“The StopGap Community Ramp Project is a simple, yet incredibly effective solution to help make our communities more accessible,” said Leslie Miller, Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer at Toyota. “We are proud to continue supporting their efforts to raise awareness and eliminate physical barriers to help create a society where everyone can freely.” »

This donation will help expand StopGap’s reach and allow more communities across the country to benefit from its community ramp project and school project. By fostering the growth of these two programs, StopGap continues to create barrier-free spaces while inspiring a national conversation about accessibility and sparking a cultural shift in the way Canadians view disabilities.

“At some point in our lives, we will all need barrier-free accommodations. So it’s important to take an accessibility-first approach to design,” said Luke Anderson, executive director and co-founder of the StopGap Foundation. “This vision begins with the accessibility of existing spaces, as well as raising awareness and educating Canadians about the importance of inclusive spaces. Over the years, Toyota Canada has been a strong partner in helping us achieve this goal, and we are grateful for their continued investments in creating an accessible world. »

The Fondation StopGap is a Canadian registered charity dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of accessibility and inclusion. Their school project, community ramp project, and corporate team building program help grow and advance our collective understanding of accessibility.

StopGap provides brightly colored ramps to businesses across Canada to overcome what Anderson calls the “entrance step problem” – a simple step found in front of a business entrance that makes entire building inaccessible to many people using mobility aids. These custom wooden ramps, painted in bright colors, provide easy access for people using mobility aids, as well as the elderly, parents with strollers and delivery drivers. By promoting awareness, these ramps encourage communities to think creatively about the accessibility issues facing Canadians.
