Moroccan Ambassador visits Wilopark and discusses new water projects

The Moroccan Ambassador to Germany, Her Excellency Zohour Alaoui, recently paid a visit to Wilopark, headquarters of the Wilo group, one of the world leaders in pump and water system technologies. During this meeting, she discussed with the group’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Oliver Hermes, on several key issues, including the importance of the Moroccan market and large-scale water infrastructure projects in Morocco.

“Due to its political stability, the reliability of its infrastructure and its visionary projects driven by politics, the Kingdom of Morocco constitutes an essential market and crossroads for Wilo,” says Oliver Hermes.

Headquartered in Casablanca, the Moroccan subsidiary Wilo is expected to expand by an even larger production unit before the end of 2024. “The investment strengthens our regional presence and illustrates our link with Morocco, Africa and the South as a whole. » This expansion therefore follows the regionalization strategy of the multinational in the technology sector.

The North African country’s commitment to sustainability also suits the Wilo Group, which recently declared its sustainability strategy as the company’s main strategy. This is how Morocco has set itself the objective of reducing its energy consumption by at least 15% by 2030 and obtaining 52% of the energy consumed from renewable sources. To address the challenges of the megatrend of water scarcity, Morocco is also investing significantly in the establishment and expansion of national water infrastructure. To achieve this and according to the national water plan, more than 37 billion US dollars will be made available until 2025.

These plans result in two megaprojects. The “Sebou Water Transfer Project” connects the Sebou dam to the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah dam in order to secure the distribution of water to the metropolises of Rabat and Marrakech as well as the surrounding regions. To equip the two lifting stations required for this purpose, Wilo supplies twelve vertical turbine pumps with 4.5 megawatts of power each. The “Tangier Water Transfer Project” must now connect the city of Tangier to the Oued El Makhazine dam with similar success.

During the interview with Ambassador Zohour Alaoui, Oliver Hermes underlined the importance of Moroccan projects. “It is only by implementing these kinds of bold initiatives that we will be able to tackle the major issues of our time,” explains Oliver Hermes. In order to continue the existing successful partnership, he gave the ambassador, at the end of the exchange, a written declaration of intent indicating that Wilo will continue to invest in the local site and support positive economic development in Morocco .
