Midi Libre Nîmes journalist Kathy Hanin rewarded by the Press Club

She won the “favorite” prize for an article on a sordid squat occupied by young migrants in the Valdegour district of Nîmes.

It was in the middle of winter, mid-January 2024, that Kathy Hanin entered this miserable squat: a former hamam in Valdegour where around a hundred young migrants lived in the cold, without electricity, with only one toilet for everyone. In her report – the first produced here by the press – the Midi Libre journalist talked about young people, possibly minors, in states of absolute distress.

An article that had consequences

The subject then made things happen, in particular with the Department, responsible for the care of unaccompanied minors, which had been obliged to rehouse them in more dignified conditions.

Thursday evening, Kathy Hanin received, for this article published in Midi Libre Nîmes on January 17, the favorite prize of the Press and Communication Club of from the hands of president Estelle Henry in Bellegarde, at the Château Saint- Louis La Perdrix in Bellegarde.

Among our colleagues rewarded in the press: Agathe Beaudouin in the written press category (In the Cévennes, service stations facing the fuel crisis published in Le Monde), in press image Jean-Claude Azria (The bird hospital published in La Gazette de Nîmes), and in audiovisual Alexandre Cussey (A podcast on Meetings around artificial intelligence for Raje).
