SENEGAL-SOCIETE-STRATEGIE / Mbour: an awareness caravan to curb irregular migration – Senegalese press agency

Mbour, Oct 4 (APS) – A youth awareness caravan against irregular migration was launched Thursday in Mbour (west), at the initiative of the National Agency for the Promotion of Youth Employment (ANPEJ).

“The authorities have taken all necessary measures to combat the departure of migrants. And it is the responsibility of ANPEJ, as a structure which advocates the promotion of youth employment, to respond to this desire of the President of the Republic,” said its general director, Sina Amadou Gaye, during the launching ceremony of this caravan.

This caravan will consist of “raising awareness among young people, […] make them understand the danger of irregular migration.”

“We came to inform them of ANPEJ’s service offerings, in order to enable them to have skills and to enroll in the ANPEJ database,” added Ms. Gaye.

“We will also help those who have the entrepreneurial abilities to obtain financing by guiding them [vers] other structures such as the DER [Délégation générale à l’entreprenariat rapide]the FPT [Fonds de financement de la formation professionnelle] or the ONFP [Office national de formation professionnelle]”, she emphasized.

Sina Amadou Gaye thinks that “the mismatch between training and employment, combined [au] lack of integration opportunities, pushes most young people into irregular migration”, justifying the need to “direct young people towards job-creating professions”.

After the Mbour stage, she promised to continue the caravan to other localities in the country such as Joal, Goudiry, Saint-Louis and Kafountine.
