National water plan: the OBV wants more funding to “take action”

The general director of the OBV, Jean Landry, notes that this announcement aims to increase the ministry’s intervention capacities in the area. One of the components of National water plan is to improve the Regional support program for water issues, and therefore directly concerns the OBVs which developed each Water master plan regional of the province.

The envelope of 10 million dollars attached to it, “it’s not much”, estimates Mr. Landry, who notes that it is only 2% of the total investment and that the sum is in reality of $50,000 per OBV.

In fact, it is mainly because the “taking action” portion is not funded, according to Mr. Landry.

The National water planfrom the Quebec water strategy 2018-2030proposes seven investment components, namely ensuring quality water for the population, protecting and restoring aquatic environments, preventing and managing water-related risks, capitalizing on the economic potential of water, promoting sustainable use water, acquire and share best practices and ensure and strengthen integrated management of water resources.

Prime Minister François Legault, who describes water as Quebec’s natural heritage, recalls in writing that Quebec has 3% of the planet’s renewable fresh water reserves, and that “we have a duty to preserve it, for ourselves and for future generations.”
