The Sûreté du Québec announced that citizens of Neuville and the surrounding area now have access to a neutral zone in the parking lot of city hall located at 230, rue Père-Rhéaume.
This is a predetermined area, which will be under continuous video recording, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A seller and a buyer who have concluded a transaction on an online sales site can meet there to carry out the exchange more securely or separated parents can exchange custody of their child(ren). children).
Although the place is not under police surveillance at all times, the presence of cameras nevertheless makes it possible to review the events that occurred, if necessary.
Video recordings are retained for a period of 30 days.
The area is developed and well identified by ground markings, as well as permanent signage outside the police station.
This project, in partnership with the City of Neuville, is inspired by a pan-Canadian initiative and aims to offer the city’s citizens a place under surveillance in order to carry out their exchanges and thus prevent thefts and attacks. The concept of the neutral meeting zone exists elsewhere in Canada or, for several years, in British Columbia as well as in Ontario.
The Sûreté du Québec is now added to the few police forces that have deployed the initiative in Quebec to date. It is therefore with pride that we are introducing this new service available to our population and hope that citizens do not hesitate to use it, in order to ensure that their exchanges take place as securely as possible.
