Beneficiary attendants: “I think this requires the intervention of ministers”, judge Isabelle Maréchal

Quebec should intervene quickly to better supervise beneficiary attendants who act in CHSLDs as requested by several coroners, judge Isabelle Maréchal who has heard “horror stories” on this subject.

Coroners have repeatedly denounced the lack of training and supervision of these workers, seeing numerous cases of seniors who died from lack of care, reported the “Journal”.

“I think it takes the intervention of ministers [Sonia Bélanger et Christian Dubé]“, said the host during her column on LCN on Thursday.

“So yes, for sure, we need much more supervised training, but we also need to know to whom we entrust the task of training those who arrive because we need new people, there is an incredible turnover because the working conditions do not make common sense,” she also assessed.

Ms. Maréchal has spoken regularly in recent days with beneficiary attendants after recounting the story of a woman who denounced the mistreatment suffered by her mother at the CHSLD La Prairie.

“What I’m told is that everyone is at the end of their rope, everyone wants to leave. […] We talk about La Prairie, but I hear stories elsewhere too,” she explained.
