A Brussels municipality searches local residents’ trash bins to check their sorting

DDozens of residents of the Brussels municipality of Evere were fined for taking out their trash at the wrong time or sorting it incorrectly, reports Bx1.

This operation, called “Trash Tripartite”, was carried out by the municipality’s Cleanliness department, in collaboration with Bruxelles-Propreté and the police services. The objective was to check as many bins as possible taken out outside of hours and to fine the offenders.

“The synergy between these three actors allowed the control/search of more than 170 trash bags, which represents more than 2,028 kilograms,” explained the office of acting mayor Ridouane Chahid (PS). “These figures demonstrate that the various actions carried out by the Cleanliness department are bearing fruit. At the beginning of the year, during this type of operation (without the Brussels Environmental Protection Agency and the Police), on a similar perimeter, 250 bags were searched on average, which represents a reduction of 32%. »

In total, 45 offenses were recorded and several dozen people will therefore have to pay a fine.
