SENEGAL-AGRICULTURE / Bassirou Diomaye Faye asks the government to assess the impact of bad weather on agricultural activity and homes – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Oct 3 (APS) – The President of the Republic asked the government to assess the impact of the flooding of the Senegal, Gambia and Casamance rivers on agricultural activity and housing, and to also review the insurance mechanism agricultural.

”Referring to the increase in rainfall observed in recent weeks, which has caused disasters in several localities of the country, the President of the Republic asked the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of the Interior […] and to the Minister of Hydraulics to take stock of the impact of the rainfall and the flooding of the Senegal, Gambia and Casamance rivers on the cultivation and housing areas,” we read in the press release from the Council of ministers on Wednesday October 2.

”He urged the government to mobilize adequate logistical means to facilitate the rapid opening up of localities isolated by the collapse of crossing structures caused by heavy rains,” adds the same source.

She affirms that Bassirou Diomaye Faye ”encouraged national solidarity towards the affected populations”.

The press release from the Council of Ministers announces that ”the Head of State also asked the government to review and popularize the agricultural insurance mechanism”.

President Faye ”invited the Minister of Agriculture to report on the arrangements for preparing the agricultural marketing campaign”.
