Following the publication of our article concerning replacing the door handle of Saint-Martin churchin Condé-en-Normandie (), by a frying pan handle, on September 26, the municipality wanted to react.

The latch “was never recovered”

As a reminder, André Diligence, in charge of the maintenance of the church, would have alerted the Condé town hall services to replace the “lost or broken” latch. With no response from them, and faced with “the difficulties” in entering the building, he imagines a temporary solution while rummaging through his shed.

“It seems that the church latch was never recovered by the technical services,” warns the municipality. “As one can imagine, this is a specific handle, which cannot therefore be permanently replaced by a classic handle. »

A temporary repair

Municipal services add: “In addition, it is important to remember that a complaint is not systematically taken into account instantly. Depending on the nature of the request, a delay is sometimes necessary linked to an order for equipment or other. A temporary repair was made by the town hall services, while waiting to recover the original handle. »

After verification, a reinforcing iron ring was installed to replace the handle.
