Automotive. Why is the ZFE unfair?

This is the perception that motorists from Greater have, but it is also a reality supported by the figures: the Cetelem automobile 2024 observatory shows that 82% of inhabitants of the Aura region consider the system of the Low Emission Zone as “unfair”74% that the timetable is too rushed. But the contradiction is not exempt from the observation: 47% of residents find that it is a good measure… Ineffective, or even insufficient against pollution for 67% of respondents.

39% want to avoid ZFEs completely

Hence a desire to avoid the Auralpins concerned: only 14% intend to change cars, but 39% outright announce that they want to avoid going to the ZFE. Retailers will appreciate… 28% are simply considering defying the ban.

A report which reminds us that purchasing power has not increased at the same speed as the price of cars, far from it:

Car insecurity: the south and east of Lyon are badly off

The observatory has also created an automobile precariousness index which compiles five criteria: household income, proximity to the ZFE, proportion of vehicles excluded by the ZFE, density of public transport and average annual mileage.

It appears that the territories most penalized by the ZFE are the south and east of the metropolis, near and Vénissieux.

Inequalities which are also found among professional owners of light utility vehicles (LCVs): of the 105,000 LCVs registered in the Lyon metropolitan area, 15%, or 16,000, are intended to be banned next January because Crit’air 3 or more. And 74% are Crit’air 2 (2028).

However, small businesses with fewer resources are the most likely to be exposed to this risk: 30% of them are Crit’Air 3 and above while large companies only have 4%.
