Covid is gaining ground in Belgium: what rules still apply?

LIs Belgium in a new wave of coronavirus? The figures, in any case, are clearly increasing, indicated Sciensano virologist Steven Van Gucht, interviewed by our colleagues from The Latest News a few days ago.

And for good reason, a new variant has appeared everywhere in Europe, the XEC variant. This presents symptoms similar to those of other variants of the virus. Some of the most common symptoms include: persistent cough, fever, loss of taste or smell, headache, fatigue, as well as typical cold symptoms like sore throat, nose runny or blocked, and muscle pain. Some patients may also experience shortness of breath, digestive problems like diarrhea, or loss of appetite.

What rules must be respected?

On its website, Sciensano points out that there is no longer any systematic follow-up of contacts carried out by call centers, and there is no longer a quarantine. In general, people who have been exposed to an infected person should pay particular attention to basic hygiene measures and limit social contacts for a period of at least 7 days, particularly avoiding any contact with a person at risk of developing a severe form of covid.

A PCR test may be recommended for people at risk of developing a severe form of covid, after a high-risk contact, if their treating doctor deems it useful, for example to initiate antiviral treatment (PCR test). The doctor may consider testing family members of a person at serious risk of covid after high-risk contact outside the family, to avoid contaminating the high-risk person.
