En this Tuesday at the end of September, on the Place de l’Université in the center of Louvain-la-Neuve, everyone meets each other on the weekly market. Students mingle with locals, who themselves come across employees from the various offices and businesses in the city center or tourists passing through for the day, coming from all over the country. In the middle of the day, we actually come across more people who are not domiciled in the municipality than citizens of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve. It must be said that many residents of Walloon Brabant, and even Brussels, have gotten into the habit of doing their shopping in the university city. “It’s much more dynamic here than in Wavre, which is completely dead,” says Dominique, whose husband is a trader in the market.
