Air Canada recently hosted the GlobalFest citizenship ceremony in Calgary, marking its 10th anniversary. The event, held at Elliston Park, welcomed 50 new Canadian citizens from 20 different countries. As an official airline partner since 2017, Air Canada has demonstrated its commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and promoting inclusiveness in Calgary. GlobalFest, also known as OneWorld Festival, is a five-day event attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year. The citizenship ceremony, a key element of the festival, took place on the Air Canada stage on August 20, 2023.

Eric Lauzon, director of community relations and partnerships at Air Canada, highlighted the importance of supporting cultural diversity and inclusion. David Rheault, vice-president of government and community relations, highlighted the role Air Canada often plays in people’s immigration experiences, making their participation in the citizenship ceremony particularly meaningful. The event, organized in partnership with the Calgary Airport Authority, showcased more than 25 cultures through performances before the ceremony and fireworks afterward. Air Canada’s involvement extended to its ambassador program, with three flight attendants representing the airline at the festival.

This partnership is part of Air Canada’s broader mission to foster inclusion and celebrate diversity across its operations. The airline views its support of GlobalFest and the Citizenship Ceremony as an opportunity to help build a more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous society while welcoming new Canadians to their new country.
