Quebec first wants to meet Jonatan Julien

Dissatisfied with the slow pace of projects in Quebec, attributed according to them to tensions between the City and the provincial government, the elected officials of Quebec first requested a meeting with the Minister of the National Capital. Their goal is to take the initiative to advance mobility projects in their district themselves.

The official opposition denounces the slowness with which several mobility projects are struggling to come to fruition in Quebec. Claude Villeneuve points out in particular the fact that the 3rd link and tramway issues have monopolized all the media and political attention in recent years. He also deplores the tensions between the Marchand administration and the CAQ government and wishes to meet the Minister of the Capitale-Nationale, Jonatan Julien, in order to take stock of the progress of the project aimed at transforming the Laurentian highway into urban boulevard.

Laurentian Highway

For Quebec first, the neighborhood councils unanimously agree on the need to convert the Laurentian highway into an urban boulevard. The party sees real development potential, in particular thanks to the demolition of the police station, thus allowing the construction of housing and the integration of public transport.

“It’s extraordinary potential. Hundreds of housing units could be built around this urban boulevard. This would favor projects already underway such as the reconversion of Fleur de Lys and development around the Videotron Center. This project would also add greenery and offer the possibility of facilitating active mobility in this sector.”

Claude Villeneuve, leader of the official opposition

Claude Villeneuve, leader of the official opposition, believes that the mayor of Quebec is no longer able to adequately defend regional issues with the CAQ government. This is why he himself wishes to plead in favor of the conversion of the Laurentian highway into an urban boulevard with the Minister of the National Capital.

“We are still looking for a legacy in Quebec from this government.”

Villeneuve also highlights the considerable delay of the Coalition Avenir Québec in terms of projects carried out in the Quebec region, affirming that the conversions of the Laurentian and Dufferin- highways offer the government an opportunity to make up for this deficit and finally deliver tangible results for the region.
