JUSTICE Drunk, he sexually assaults a young woman in a center

A 42-year-old man of Algerian origin was on trial yesterday before the Nîmes court for having sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman while drunk.

In an accommodation center in Nîmes, on September 24 around 8:30 p.m., a young woman was in her room. Suddenly, a drunk man enters the room without closing the door. The forty-year-old rushes towards her and tucks his hands under her t-shirt to feel her chest before making sexual gestures.

The 23-year-old girl starts screaming. Two witnesses see the scene, including a woman who intervenes. The screams call out to the night watchman who goes to the scene, then contacts the police. The 42-year-old man was brought to the police station where he denied the facts. During his judgment, this Tuesday, October 1, the defendant sticks to his positions. “I didn’t do anything,” he says from the box of the Nîmes criminal court. The latter has 12 mentions in his criminal record related to alcohol.

Jean-Luc Vasserot, the public prosecutor, gives these requisitions: “For this gentleman who denies the facts, I am going to ask you for five years in prison with a permanent ban from the national territory in order to preserve our French citizens.” The defendant receives three years in prison, continued detention, registration in the sex offender file and a permanent ban from French territory.
