Russia judges that has not completed “decolonization” in and New Caledonia

According to the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, the state’s response to the riots in New Caledonia in the spring and to the unrest in demonstrates an “unfinished process of decolonization.”

Russia said Wednesday that the riots and police response in Martinique in September and in New Caledonia in the spring demonstrated that had not completed the “decolonization” of these territories. “The worsening of social and economic problems, the emergence of acute political crises in the French Overseas Territories are, obviously, a direct consequence of an unfinished decolonization process. said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

“This is not the first time in recent times that is not ready for a mutually respectful dialogue with the indigenous population of its overseas territories, preferring to rely on force,” she added, questioned during a weekly briefing on the September violence in Martinique.

Since it launched an attack on Ukraine to occupy and annex part of its territory, Russia has tried to pose as the defender of the peoples it considers oppressed by the West. It thus successfully launched a diplomatic offensive in French-speaking Africa and supplanted France in the Sahel countries, in particular by deploying its Wagner paramilitary group there.

Russia has also been accused for years by France and other Western countries of trying to manipulate their public opinions by leading disinformation campaigns via its state media and on social networks.
