Macky Sall appointed head of Senegal’s Takku Help Coalition

The former Senegalese president was chosen as head of the list of the Takku Wallu Senegal coalition for the legislative elections scheduled for November 17.

This coalition notably brings together the Alliance for the Republic, founded by Macky Sall, the Senegalese Democratic Party led by Karim Wade, Rewmi of Idrissa Seck, the “Jamm Ak Jarin” coalition, as well as the New Responsibility of Amadou Ba, dolphin of Macky Sall during the last elections.

Opposite, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party, was appointed to lead his party’s list for the legislative elections. Imprisoned for six months under Sall then prevented from participating in the presidential election, this legislative election marks a new face-to-face between Sonko and the former Senegalese president.

To obtain a parliamentary majority capable of supporting his reforms and stabilizing the Senegalese political landscape, President Diomaye Faye decided to dissolve parliament on September 12 and call early legislative elections. The Assembly was dominated by the former Benno Bok Yakaar coalition which supported Macky Sall.

The ruling party had requested the dissolution of the High Council of Local Authorities and the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, deemed budget-intensive, a decision rejected en bloc by opposition deputies.
