Aliou Cissé ousted, a serious contender for his succession stands out

Following the formalization of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), names are circulating as to the succession of Aliou Cissé. And everything suggests that another former Senegalese international will inherit the position of coach of the Lions of Téranga.

This is the news that has kept the world of Senegalese football in suspense since this morning. Aliou Cissé, head of the Senegal national team since March 2015, is no longer the Lions coach. The newspaper Sud Quotidien, informed in advance that the Ministry of Sports informed, via a “confidential” letter, to the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) that the contract of the local technician (expired last August) will not be extended. The latter has just made the news public via a press release on its social networks.

If Pape Thiaw, current assistant coach of the Lions, should act as interim coach for the next deadlines, the governing body is also required to propose another technician to the State for the succession of Aliou Cissé. While some media highlight the current number 2 of Cissé or Omar Daf ( coach), it is Habib Beye who seems to be favored by Senegalese supporters. These same supporters who put pressure on the State for the departure of Aliou Cissé see in the former coach of Red Star the perfect profile to take the Sadio Mané gang to a new level.

The Lions, a career goal for Habib Beye

Recently returned to Dakar to attend the funeral of his late father, Habib Beye has never hidden his ambition to one day lead the Senegal national team. «[Être sélectionneur des Lions] is a career objective but it must be an objective that arrives in due time, and today it would already be disrespectful towards Aliou Cissé to say that I am going to go there now, it is not a reality. I really admire the work he is doing and I am happy that Senegal is experiencing these moments.”declared the former Senegalese international in the columns of RMC Sports a few months ago.

Now that Aliou Cissé is no longer linked to the selection, the idea of replacing his former teammate should not displease Habib Beye. That’s good, since the former glory has been a free agent since his departure from Red Star, which he led to promotion to the French second division.
