Suzanne Wajoka, left winger of the ESBF, should participate in the gathering of the French handball team at the end of October. A first for the native of Nouméa, but also for New Caledonia.
It is a dream that is often unattainable for most elite handball players. Suzanne Wajoka made it a reality: the young player from the Entente sportive Besançon feminine was called up for the very first time for the French team this Wednesday. Before her, no Caledonian had yet received the coach’s summons.
At 23, she should therefore participate in the national selection gathering scheduled for the end of October. Les Bleues will face Hungary twice in a friendly match, on October 20 and then on October 26. This will perhaps be the opportunity for Suzanne Wajoka to honor her first selection.
After a cruciate ligament rupture in 2021, the Caledonian was able to find the mental and physical resources to come back stronger and impress on the pitch.
Enough to arouse the pride and joy of local structures, who had spotted and trained Suzanne Wajoka at JS Mont-Dore then at the Pôle Esperance Women’s Handball Pacifique in Nouméa, before her departure for France in 2016.
“She is a rough diamond who had to be supported to achieve this type of objective. She had a lot of qualities, but it took a lot of work too”notes Olivia Vaïtanaki, in charge of the Caledonian handball hopefuls pole, who “hopes that other young people will in turn open the door to the very high level.”
“I spoke with her on the phone this morning, I told her that I was very proud of her. We were waiting for this selection, that was really the goal. A few tears of joy were shed”smiles the former professional player.
“Suzanne deserves it because since last year she has put out some very good performances. I think she had something clicked”for his part greets the president of the New Caledonia Handball League Ghislaine Chambonnier. “It will be a reference for the generation coming up behind”.
