It is once again possible to drink tap water throughout Geneva. The cantonal chemist lifted on Tuesday evening the restrictions in place since Sunday afternoon in around ten municipalities on the left bank, announced the Industrial Services of Geneva (SIG).

“All water quality analyzes meet the criteria allowing unrestricted consumption of tap water. Both the physicochemical and bacteriological analyzes comply with the standards set by legislation,” communicated the SIG. Therefore, water can once again be used normally for drinking, cooking and other domestic uses.

This return to normal requires “no particular attention”, according to the SIG. “However, as a simple precautionary measure, and only for taps that have not been used during the last three days, it is recommended to open them carefully and let the water flow until it becomes transparent and fresh” , they specify.

No increase in consultations

The breakup ofa pipe near Eaux-Vives beach Sunday morning was the cause of this situation. In three villages (Anières, Corsier and Hermance), the water was deemed unfit for consumption throughout the territory. Ten other municipalities, including part of the Eaux-Vives district, were also partially affected. The emergency system put in place will be lifted from Wednesday noon.

The cantonal doctor reports that the situation has remained calm since Sunday. Doctors and hospitals have not recorded an increase in consultations linked to this event.

The green information line, which answers 0844 800 808, remains active.
