As autumn has arrived, tourist season 2024 is coming to an end in Calvados. A season marked by the 80th anniversary of the Landing and more indirectly by the Paris Olympic Games This year again, the nationality most represented in terms of overnight stays in the Normandy department will surprise more than one.
The Dutch in force
These are the Dutch who were the most numerous to stay in Calvados between the months of April and September 2024. They represent 19% of foreign nights, followed by Germans (16%) and British (14%).
Our neighbors across the Channel are also the most numerous to have sought information in tourist offices, ahead of the Belgians, the Dutch and the Germans. Their attendance in these places is up 31% compared to the 2023 season.
At the foot of the podium for overnight stays, the Belgians arrive in fourth (7%), ahead of the Americans (6%) and the Italians (5%). On the scale of Normandy, the quinté is different: the Germans in the lead, followed by the British, the Dutch, the Americans and the Belgians.
The Germans, for the pleasure of professionals
For several years, the presence of German tourists is growing. Good news for tourism professionals, as visitors from across the Rhine have a financial capacity greater than the European average. “The Germans have 22% more purchasing power compared to all of our neighbors,” Anaïs Gosset, business advisor at the CCI Caen Normandie, confirms to Liberté Caen.
