UN: Switzerland expects a meeting of the Security Council soon

Switzerland began its second presidency of the UN Security Council in the midst of Iranian missile attacks on Israel. She expects a meeting of the body on this issue “sooner rather than later”.

The Swiss ambassador to the UN in New York Pascale Baeriswyl is currently speaking with all members of the Security Council before a probable meeting on the Middle East (archives).

“We have already had discussions this morning,” Swiss Ambassador to the UN Pascale Baeriswyl told the press early this afternoon in New York (early evening in Switzerland). “We are monitoring the rapidly changing situation not only with the greatest concern, but also very closely,” she added.

“We are in contact with everyone,” she also clarified. “I don’t think we urgently need a new resolution. We urgently need the application of the resolution which provides for the absence of Israeli troops and the withdrawal of Hezbollah from southern Lebanon and its disarmament, the ambassador further affirmed. “The emergency is a cessation of hostilities, a ceasefire,” according to her.
