The director of the nursery where they went managed to control the attacker.
A man was arrested after attacking and stabbing three 5-year-old children as they went to daycare with a childminder in the Swiss city of Zurich on Tuesday (October 1), local police said.
One of the children was seriously injured in the attack which occurred on Berninastrasse shortly after midday in the Oerlikon district in the north of the city, according to a police statement.
It was the director of the nursery who managed to control the attacker with the help of a man present on site. The three children were taken to hospital, according to La Tribune de Genève.
Police cordoned off the immediate area, images broadcast by local media showed.
Law enforcement did not provide further details about the weapon or a possible motive.
The nursery employee who was with the children alerted the police, who were able to arrest the suspect, described in the press release as a 23-year-old Chinese man. According to police, he acted alone. We do not yet know if there is a link between this man, the nursery and the children.
