16 alleged traffickers arrested in Montérégie

A year almost to the day after seeing the Sûreté du Québec seize all their drugs, 16 alleged drug traffickers were handcuffed throughout Montérégie on Tuesday morning.

The suspects aged between 27 and 60 were arrested early in the morning in the municipalities of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Saint-Constant, Brossard, Carignan, Chambly, Napierville and Saint-Alexandre.

They will be met by investigators in the coming hours and should appear Wednesday by videoconference at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse.

They could then be accused of drug trafficking.

This series of arrests is intended to be the final phase of an investigation that began 18 months ago and which led to around thirty searches at the end of September 2023, in different municipalities on the South Shore of Montreal.

The searches notably led to the seizure of 1,700 cannabis plants, 360 kg of dried cannabis, nearly 20 kg of hashish, around twenty grams of cocaine, six firearms, an electric shock weapon (Taser gun), a baton. telescopic, approximately $65,000 in cash, seven vehicles as criminal property, as well as an “item bearing the image of a criminalized group”.

In total, more than 200 police officers participated in this major investigation.
