SENEGAL-ELECTION-LOGISTIQUE / Early legislative elections: the Minister of the Interior hands over 59 vehicles to the CENA – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, September 30 (APS) – The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Jean Baptiste Tine, officially handed over the keys of fifty-nine vehicles to the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) on Monday for better control of the early legislative elections of November 17 in the 46 departments of the country.

”It is with great pleasure that I hand over to you the 59 vehicles which will equip the CENA and the CEDA (Autonomous Departmental Electoral Commission) to help them in their very important work which they do every day but even more so with the period which opens; with the very ardent wish for success in these elections,” he said.

The minister who spoke during the ceremony of handing over the keys to the vehicles at the National Police Academy recalled that this allocation is a twelve-year old grievance which has just been satisfied by the new authorities.

”It is a significant investment which perfectly reflects our deep desire and our commitment to conduct and organize the most democratic elections possible, the most transparent also in the best possible conditions for our CENA partners,” he said. -he emphasized.

The Minister of the Interior says he is convinced that these vehicles will help the administrative body responsible for supervising the elections “to drive [sa] mission in the best conditions”.

The president of the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), Abdoulaye Sylla, for his part praised this allocation which improves “working conditions” at the central level and in the decentralized services in the 46 departments of the country.

”It is important for the CENA to see working conditions improved, to see the working environment become […] more valued. These CEDAs have been asking to be equipped for twelve years. This will allow us to better monitor elections,” he declared.

The Director General of Elections, Birame Sène, and the Secretary General of CENA, Alioune Badara Mbengue, took part in the ceremony.
