We were informed by email, as were those who subscribed to the Hydro-Québec newsletter dedicated to the Pierre-Laporte substation reconstruction project and new 230 kV power line.
The Voice of the East announced it first about ten days ago.
The new variant of the route proposed by Hydro-Québec does indeed run along Route 139 to the east, which none of the first four routes presented last April proposed.
At least that’s what we understand from reading the map, having not been able to confirm it in person with Hydro-Québec on Monday.
Let us point out that no final route has yet been chosen and that all variants are on the table. However, some of them seem to have a better chance than others of being accepted.
This is the case for the “route 139 variant”.
Remember that the future 230,000 volt (or 230 kV) line will connect the “Montérégie” substation in Sainte-Cécile-de-Milton to the “Pierre-Laporte” substation by 2028 (the current Cleveland substation will be rebuilt and renamed), south of Granby.
From the future Pierre-Laporte station (the former Cleveland) the future Cleveland-Waterloo line will also depart, the launch of work for which is still conditional on obtaining the green light from the Commission for the Protection of the Agricultural Territory of Quebec (CPTAQ) , recently recalled The Voice of the East.
These two projects, although distinct, are part of a broad electrical modernization plan in Estrie which extends beyond 2035, the Estriens being more numerous and therefore more demanding in electricity.
Public consultation on October 17
To return to the new “route 139 variant”, it will be the subject of a public consultation, which will take place on Thursday October 17, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., still at the Hôtel Castel.
This new 230 kV line, as well as the construction of the new electrical substation — replacing the current Cleveland substation — corresponds to the fifth stage of the plan to modernize the Hydro-Québec electrical network in Estrie.
