“He doesn’t want to hear us! These ears are for him!“, exclaims Christophe Cédat, one of the spokespersons for collective of Defenders of Lyon and Greater Lyonbrandishing plastic ears intended for the president of the Metropolis, Bruno Bernard.
This Monday, September 30, 2024, a little more than 150 demonstrators (600 according to the organizers) were present from 12:30 p.m. in front of the hotel Metropolis of Lyonwhile the elected officials were in full council, to express their dissatisfaction with the community’s urban planning policy.
Objective of the event: to be heard by the Metropolis of Lyon
Vuvuzela, horn, whistle… A real uproar was heard in the square. Shopkeepers and local residents were equipped with false ears to denounce the lack of listening on the part of the Metropolis. Lyon taxis also joined the movement from their wheels, honking in rhythm with the crowd gathered in front of the building. The blue and red smoke bombs were also out to accompany this deafening fanfare, drowning the crowd in thick two-tone smoke.
On the demonstrators’ signs, the messages were clear: “No to the Oullins ring road” or “No to the closure of Chemin Neuf” de Saint-Just, and sometimes comical, with the “irreducible Oullinois”comparing himself to the Gauls facing the metropolitan invader, or “New itinerary from August, Welcome to Oullins-byrinthe”.
When the vuvuzelas began to weaken, slogans took over, calling for the resignation of Fabien Bagnon, vice-president of the Métropole de Lyon, or chanting “The Metropolis, we’re fed up!”.
During the metropolitan council’s break, a few elected officials came out onto the square to speak, including Philippe Cochet, mayor of Caluire-et-Cuire: “what you are expressing at the moment, we work on it every day to make it understood to the president of the Metropolis“, before Christophe Marguin, chef and metropolitan councilor, adds: “there is no listening, they are not interested in us. It’s starting to become a dictatorship!”
The collective calls for an exchange with Bruno Bernard
The collective of Defenders of Lyon and Greater Lyon accuses the Métropole de Lyon in particular of acting in a “brutal and vertical“in the application of her projects. She is qualified”anti-motorist, only concerned about cycling“, without really taking into account the opinion of the Lyonnais.”Yes to bicycles, yes to gentle modes, yes to sharing, but sharing is for everyone. The president and his teams must come back to work with us!“, assures Jean-Noël Potin, spokesperson for the movement.
An interview was to be organized this Monday noon between the spokespersons of the movement and four vice-presidents of the Metropolis. But the representatives of the collective preferred to decline the invitation, requiring the presence of Bruno Bernard. According to the Metropolis, he is available to the collective to set a new meeting date, eagerly awaited by the Defenders of Greater Lyon.
