Quebec positions itself as a world reference in active mobility

Nearly 250 policy makers and experts from around the globe will gather in Quebec for a week to discuss active mobility. The economic benefits are estimated at $2.7 million.

“This event is major for Quebec, not only in terms of economic benefits, but also for the future of active mobility,” declared the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, in a press release.

“Great strides have been made in recent years to develop our cycling network and invest in active mobility and citizen health. This will be a golden opportunity to share our vision and experiences and learn from the best experts in the field,” he continues.

The mayor of Quebec made this announcement while in Switzerland, where the International Cycling Union (UCI), the organizer of the event, is based.

“By welcoming our Forum dedicated to active mobility and its participants from the four corners of the world, Quebec is showing that beyond elite sport, it is also committed to cycling for all and walking towards a more sustainable society thanks to the bicycle,” says UCI President David Lappartient.

Quebec recognized by cyclists

Mr. Marchand and Mr. Lappartient mention that the capital is increasingly recognized internationally as a favorite destination for cyclists.

“The city and its region are already well known to cycling enthusiasts for being the host of major races on the UCI international calendar in several of our disciplines,” says the UCI president.

“Great world champions also declared during their last visit for the Cycling Grand Prix that Quebec had initiated a major change in its vision and that it was increasingly distinguishing itself in the world,” adds the mayor of Quebec.

In addition to this international competition, the greater Quebec region hosts events, such as the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, the Tour de Beauce and the UCI MTB Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup.
