$1,000 scholarship from the REA Foundation for a student

Six young people, including one from , received a $1,000 scholarship as part of the fourth edition of the Physical Rehabilitation Foundation (REA) Scholarship Program.

Jérémy Deguire, architecture student at Collège , is the Laval recipient.

Aged 19, he was the victim of a serious bicycle accident in September 2023. This event left him paraplegic while he was about to finish his studies in carpentry.

Since he had to reorient himself due to his disability, he began studying architecture. “Maybe I can no longer build buildings, but I can create plans,” he emphasizes in a press release. And that makes me happy.”

In total, 39 scholarships totaling $97,500 have been awarded to 32 people since the launch of the REA Foundation program. They notably began studies in anthropology, architecture, medicine, law, preschool education and several others.

According to the Office for Disabled Persons of Quebec, only 15.8% of people with a disability have a college diploma, compared to 18.2% of those without a disability.

In addition, 18.2% of people with a disability have a university degree compared to 25% of those without a disability. Finally, according to the Office for Disabled Persons of Quebec, 54.7% of Quebecers aged 15 to 64 with a disability are employed compared to 75.3% of those without a disability. (N.P.)
