SENEGAL-SOCIETE-TIC / Some 1,600 children and young people from Army cities trained in digital citizenship – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, September 28 (APS) – Some thousand six hundred children and young people from the eight Army and Gendarmerie cities in the Dakar region were trained in digital citizenship, as part of the first edition of vacation and of patronage, organized by the Ministry of the Armed Forces, declared, Saturday, General Wagane Faye, technical advisor to the Minister of the Armed Forces.

”We organized from September 5 to 26, 2024, vacation courses and sponsorship for the benefit of 1,600 children and young people aged 7 to 20 from 8 military cities of the Armies, the Gendarmerie in the Dakar region, due to 200 children per city,” he said during the closing ceremony of these vacation courses, in the presence of the Minister of the Armed Forces, Birame Diop.

General Faye indicated that the ministry wants to contribute not only to improving the living environment of military and gendarmerie towns, but also to the education, training and leisure of children.

Children and young people aged between 7 and 20 took part in these holiday and sponsorship courses on digital citizenship for 21 days, supervised by 400 instructors.

This first edition of the sponsorship focused on the theme: ”Educational communities and new approaches to digital citizenship”.

”The ministry also plans to support, in collaboration with other ministries and partners such as women’s associations in these cities, in carrying out income-generating projects,” he said.

According to the technical advisor to the Minister of the Armed Forces, patronage and holiday courses are unique opportunities to learn not only essential values, but also solidarity, mutual aid, rigor, good citizenship and family spirit which characterize the armed forces.

He added that the role of patronage goes beyond academic support, and that it helps build responsible citizens, aware of their role in society. ”We all know that education is not limited to classrooms. It also thrives on exchanges, shared experiences and activities that promote personal development,” noted General Faye.
