Rufisque, September 27 (APS) – The city of Rufisque announces that it has established a partnership with that of Zhoushan, in China, through an agreement aimed at developing exchanges between the two parties in sectors of socio-economic activity beneficial for their populations, the APS learned from the municipal institution.
The targeted activities concern deep-sea fishing, trade in aquatic products, marine aquaculture, education and technical and professional training, according to a press release from the communications service of the city of Rufisque.
The environment and sustainable development, coastal protection, health, culture, tourism, sport and exchanges between young people are also areas concerned by this partnership, indicates the same source.
Zhoushan is a prefecture-level city located in Hangzhou Bay, northeastern Zhejiang Province. It consists exclusively of islands.
The signing of this partnership agreement covering ten areas of activity marks “a remarkable local diplomatic success” for the mayor of Rufisque, Oumar Cissé, on mission in China since September 22, according to the text.
It constitutes the culmination of the exchanges that the two local authorities had begun “more than a year ago”, informs the text, according to which this partnership marks “the starting point for a cooperation of friendship, peace, equality, based on trust and mutual respect”.
The city of Rufisque therefore welcomes “the spirit of openness and the convergence of views of the municipal team of the city of Zhoushan for these very strategic choices in decentralized cooperation, a guarantee of sustainable local development” .
“By committing to establishing friendly relations for the strengthening of mutual cooperation and friendship, the two municipalities will allow their communities to benefit from the numerous economic benefits of this partnership,” concludes the press release.
