Fabien Bagnon, the vice-president of the Lyon Metropolis in charge of mobility, was the guest of Scoop Matin Lyon to tell us about the Bicycle Festival, organized this weekend in Lyon, in partnership with Radio Scoop.
The job of vice-president of the Metropolis in charge of mobility
“It’s a title that’s a bit heavy sometimes. The objective is to work on the diversification of mobility and the development of roads, particularly the Lyon roads. Always with the safety of everyone on public roads in mind. It’s a full-time job. These are big weeks, even if I kept a professional activity elsewhere. It is not easy work, but it is essential work.”
The bicycle festival
“We had an event called the Bike Convergence, which brought together cyclists from all over the city and who met in Lyon. We said to ourselves that we needed to give more scope to this problem. We see that there is a real enthusiasm for cycling in Lyon. We wanted to celebrate it in all its forms, whether festive or family. The Convergence continues, there are twenty departures from the Métropole de Lyon on Sunday, but also a big parade on Sunday afternoon and a picnic at Place Bellecour. We will also take the opportunity to test the new electric Vélo’V.“
The Cargo Bike festival
“This year, it is integrated into the bicycle festival. We see the development of family bikes, which can accommodate two to three children. This transforms mobility. This is the opportunity to test the models and see which one best suits your needs. There will be bicycle exchanges, Place Valmy in the 9th arrondissement, but also Place Bellecour.“
The bike school
“There are more and more beginner cyclists. The idea is to support and train. Either to learn to ride a bike, or to learn to get around town, to live with pedestrians, cars, and to respect other users.”
