The reunion between Mattéo Guendouzi and Igor Tudor at Lazio was not a cakewalk. The French midfielder confirmed that his relationship with the Croatian coach was just as tense as in Marseille.
Between Mattéo Guendouzi and Igor Tudor, it’s not really mad love. After having played under the leadership of the Croatian technician at Olympique de Marseille between 2022 and 2023, the French midfielder found his former coach at Lazio in Rome in 2024.
This new collaboration between the two men within the club in the Italian capital only lasted three months, before Tudor ended his contract with the Biancocelesti. This departure does not seem to have displeased the 2022 world vice-champion, who admitted that his relationship with the manager from Split at Lazio had been just as complex as at OM.
“It wasn’t a very happy moment”
“When I signed for Lazio, obviously, with Sarri, it’s a style that I really appreciated. We always had to have the ball, do great things on the pitch, attack hard towards the opponent’s goal… I progressed enormously with him tactically”declared Guendouzi for Free Footballthus highlighting its evolution under the direction of Maurizio Sarri.
However, the former Marseillais drew up a less flattering observation on the arrival of Tudor among the double champions of Italy
“Afterwards, Tudor came back and it wasn’t the football I liked the most, but hey, you have to know how to adapt to any style. But it sure wasn’t a very happy moment.”he confided.
