Sudan in the grip of its worst humanitarian crisis

The foreign minister also participated in a meeting on the situation in Sudan. The war in this country deeply worries Switzerland, particularly given the devastating consequences for the Sudanese population.

A few years ago, Sudan was seen as a model of political transition from military to civilian rule, but the war has now triggered the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

“Millions of people have had to flee and even more people are suffering from severe food insecurity. This misery is caused by man and must end,” said Ignazio Cassis.

Switzerland is committed to promoting peace in Sudan. “Despite our best efforts, direct discussions between the parties have not been possible until now. However, we remain determined not to give up,” declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Nations, the African Union and Switzerland have formed a group to promote peace in Sudan.
