This is an exceptional opportunity offered to residents of Chailly-en-Bière and the surrounding areas of Fontainebleau. Saturday September 28, the municipality and the Chailly-Faÿ Heritage and Culture association offer a presentation of the restoration of Notre-Dame de , five years after the fire which ravaged part of the building.

A unique presentation of the restoration work on Notre-Dame

This meeting will be hosted by Maryline Guirythe deputy general director of the public establishment Rebâtir Notre-Dame, who is closely linked to Chailly-en-Bière (Seine-et-Marne). “She belongs to a historic family from Faÿ and although she lives in Paris, she maintains very strong links with the village,” indicates Marcel Lienhardt, 1er deputy in Chailly-en-Bière and friend of Maryline Guiry.

It was during an exchange this summer that she offered to produce this presentation which should attract an audience well beyond the village. “It’s an opportunity to discover unpublished documents, to understand the hidden side of the restoration of this monument,” he continues.

Similarities also exist between Notre-Dame de Paris and the Saint-Paul church in Chailly-en-Bière, currently under construction: the same company worked on the restoration of the framework of these two religious buildings. The Saint-Paul church is also one of the first beneficiaries of the national collection for the religious heritage of the villages of , launched by the Heritage Foundation.

A contribution to restore the church

Major renovation work has been launched for this church whose bell tower was immortalized by Jean-François Millet, in his famous painting The Angelus. Participants in this presentation will also be able to help finance the work on the new section of the church, via the Heritage Foundation, which should make it possible to renovate the exterior part of the transept, the choir and the apse of the church.

Other projects will then be necessary for the restoration of the bell tower and then the interior of the building.

Many initiatives are being carried out in Chailly-en-Bière to save this heritage, classified as a Historic Monument…

Even the village baker gets involved: he offers the sale of raspberry tiles, part of the profits of which are donated to the Heritage Foundation, to restore the Saint-Paul church. The inauguration of Notre-Dame de Paris is scheduled for December 7.
