Cyclo-cross now has its challenge in North Finistère

Challenge du Bout du Monde (1st round). Cyclo-cross from Kan to Pleyber-Christ, Sunday

It is in Pleyber-Christ, at the Kan cyclo-cross, that the first edition of the “Challenge du bout du monde CX” will be launched. “It was to promote the specialty in North Finistère. And then during a challenge, to appear well in the general classification, the riders try to do all the events so that guarantees a certain number of riders for the organizers,” explains Thomas Lecuyer, former rider and now secretary of the Landivisienne Cycliste. If seniors are required to participate, the general classification will only concern young people, from U7 to U19.

“We want to prevent it from declining”

At the start of the road season, a collective of cyclo-cross focused clubs made up of AC Gouesnou, Vélo Sport Drennecois, Landivisienne Cycliste, Team Oxygène Portsall, Kerlouan Amitié Vélo, and EC Landerneau, decided to set up this project to respond to a decline in the discipline for several years between the financial and organizational aspects and the difficulty of the discipline. “It has decreased, and it continues. There are very few organizations planned, knowing that there are fewer and fewer runners as well. In Finistère, we are holding up but we want to prevent it from declining,” assures Thomas Lecuyer.

Once considered, the rapprochement with the Challenge De Cornouaille Sud was ultimately not possible in order to avoid an excess of events. In the meantime, Finistère can now boast of having a challenge in the South and in the North.
