Météo maintains yellow alert for Guadeloupe for heavy rain and storms

The situation remains unchanged this Sunday evening. The trade wind failure in a very unstable environment is still favoring the triggering of thunderstorms, hence the yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms for the whole of Guadeloupe. This should still be the case tomorrow, Monday.

The yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms continues to follow us this Sunday at the end of the day and probably on Monday. The trade wind failure is still there. The showers therefore continue to cross our Archipelago, sometimes taking on a stormy character at the end of the afternoon and early evening. Accumulations of 40 to 60 mm are possible in less than 3 hours.

Subsequently, the showers tend to ease and affect Marie-Galante and Désirade more.

Tomorrow, Monday, is a last day of trade wind failure. The stationary and occasionally thunderstorm showers that will break out once again, from the end of the morning and around midday, will mainly threaten the relief and the west coasts: namely Deshaies/Bouillante on the one hand and Port-Louis/Anse-Bertrand on the other hand.

New accumulations of around 40 to 60 mm in 3 hours or even less are possible.

Thunderstorms broke out in the late morning on the Basse Terre relief and in the early afternoon on the North of Grande Terre as well as in the Grands Fonds. It is estimated that between 50 and 60 mm of water fell in 2 hours.
On the Morne à l’Eau side, an estimate of 60 mm fell in around 1 hour between 1 and 2 p.m.

Check the weather situation and be particularly careful:

  • if you have to practice risky sports outdoors,
  • if your outdoor activities are located in an exposed area, on land, especially in the mountains, near waterways, or at sea,
  • if you have to travel in flood zones (crossing fords or low passages
    collected),
  • in case of thunderstorm: avoid using telephones and electrical appliances. Do not take shelter in a wooded area, near pylons or poles.
