New appeal from Swiss artists for Gaza

Third call for a ceasefire, for a firm commitment from the Confederation in the face of the carnage in Gaza. In October and February, a French-speaking collective of artists launched two texts, each of which collected more than 1,500 signatures from filmmakers, actors, writers, musicians, comedians and visual artists.

To ask the Federal Council to demand an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, as well as unconditional respect for the Geneva Conventions. Switzerland is also called upon to cease all military cooperation with Israel and to maintain funding for UNRWA, the UN agency providing aid to the Palestinian population.

The least we can say is that the situation is not moving forward, and is getting worse by the day. “We, Swiss artists or those residing in Switzerland, express our shame, our indignation and our anger,” proclaims this third appeal launched Wednesday by the collective of artists for a ceasefire in Gaza – we find Dominique Ziegler, Jacob Berger, Hervé Loichemol and Nicolas Wadimoff.

The text, to be signed online, once again asks the Federal Council “to immediately re-establish Switzerland’s financial participation in UNRWA, to cease all cooperation with the State of Israel, to do everything possible to prevent [ses] exactions, and to demand [de sa part] strict application of the Geneva Conventions.
