The twenty-second edition of the Tour de l’Aude, in which people with disabilities compete, crosses the west of the department. The participants will arrive in Castelnaudary on Friday, September 20, to raise awareness of disability among schoolchildren.

On September 17, the Aude department kicked off the 22nd edition of the Tour de l’Aude, a 300-kilometer paracycling raid, divided into four stages. The disabled riders cross fifty municipalities in the west of the department, from Preixan to Saint-Papoul. They go to meet schoolchildren to raise their awareness of disability. A very special edition, at a time when hosted the Paralympic Games at the end of August.

“This event brings together people with severe disabilities,” explains Nicole Cathala, deputy elected representative of the Castelnaudary municipality, in charge of solidarity and disability.

Awareness and gala meal

The fourth and final stage of the Tour de l’Aude will thus begin on September 20. The riders will cross nine towns located between Fanjeaux and Saint-Papoul, including Castelnaudary. They will stop in the “world capital of cassoulet”, in front of the grain market to raise awareness among the children of the town’s nursery and primary schools.

The riders will therefore go to Castelnaudary between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., before getting back on board their tandems to finish the fourth stage by crossing Issel and Saint-Papoul. “They will then return to Castelnaudary, for a gala meal organized at the Halle aux Grains”, underlines Nicole Cathala. And to honor the “world capital of cassoulet”, it will, of course, be a cassoulet that will be served to the athletes.
